Is there a book that you wish you could “unread”? One that you disliked so thoroughly you wish you could just forget that you ever read it?
Months after having read it, I think I would like to un-read Midwives. As I was reading it, I was completely engrossed. I loved the story, the voice, the characters... but that last page was so jarring that now, it's really the only thing I remember about the book. Read more here.
LOL! A messy ends makes any book trash. Like that anticlimax in The Da Vinci Code!
ReplyDeleteBooking through Unread
Hannibal and anything Jodi Picoult has written lately. I got so mad at the end of My Sister's Keeper that I swore I wasn't going to buy any more of her books.
ReplyDeleteThat must have been terrible to like the book that much, then have the ending be so bad. I have had a couple like that, but I can't remember what they were. I have probably blocked them out of my memory!
ReplyDeleteI somehow forgot to mention The Shack. I came out feeling like it was written for elderly Pentecostals who'd never seen a fantasy novel before. Awful awful awful.
ReplyDeleteI really liked Midwives. The ending is a shock, but I thought it worked well.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't so much that the ending was bad or trashy - I actually think it was necessary and the book wouldn't have resolved well without it. If I could read it for the first time again, I would just tell myself not to read the last page and then spend my life wondering - missing a key piece of resolution. If you like to be shocked or surprised or really impacted, you might love this story.
