It's been a long month for me, with some comfort. I hope you can say the same. It's both encouraging and discouraging to know that this kind of loss doesn't get "easier" -- but I do have some relief in knowing that I likely won't lose a pet quite like this ever again. I can't imagine reliving this, and at the same time I do find a lot of solace in that final memory with Eli, me holding him and saying goodbye. I'm grateful that's how he went, not in pain and with me there, even if he wasn't conscious. At least he wasn't killed on the spot. Anyway -- thank you for the comments. I didn't even know there were double-grandparents way on back in the family!bashtreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15865739589835039440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092327908759855115.post-79026523081078938262014-06-01T14:48:57.441-04:002014-06-01T14:48:57.441-04:00Thanks, friend. Your mom and I share not one but two sets of great-great grandparents. Saw your mom's post on FB about the tragedy that happened last Thursday and later a link to this blog. My heart goes out to you and your son over losing Eli. Your words made a special connection because we too lost our beloved dog of 14 years on that same day Thursday May 1 at 4 45 pm. I also have the pawprint in clay, container of ashes, empty dog bed, clippings of his white and tan fur, and his empty collar (I sometimes jingle the tags to remind me of that sound). Although his death wasn't violent it did happen unexpectedly (he had a tumor we didn't know about on his liver, that apparently ruptured sometime during the night before). Your post captured many of the feelings I am having during the last few days even though the circumstances were different on what happened. Anyway my prayers are with you and your son and all that knew your beloved Eli. I feel your grief, different circumstance but still difficult. And experiencing it several times during my lifetime doesn't seem to make it easier. But if Heaven is truly Paradise, they will be waiting for us there. May God bless and comfort. Thanks for sharing your post.Ronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09219144649279251771noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092327908759855115.post-876020892557833952014-05-07T22:41:37.040-04:002014-05-07T22:41:37.040-04:00Prayers, sweets. But I got a few sheets of construction paper from mummy in purple, green, white, and red to kind of divide up the sections and it's also full of sheet protectors. Our church actually does a really good job at providing resources for days as they come along so I save everything and add it in. I could make some copies and mail or scan them to you. Things like an Advent and Christmas tree blessing, a leaflet explaining the different ways light is a symbol during the season, a blessing for the doorframe (CMB) for Epiphany. They even gave out these Christmas wafers for us to share with our families for Christmas eve (it's a Polish tradition). We got blessed chalk for the door for Epiphany and blessed candles for Candlemas. I continue to consult The Catholic Home throughout the year too (Meredith Gould--is that one of the ones you have?), but I read a book by Maria von Trapp that was helpful as well--Around the Year with the Trapp family or something like that.KelleyAnnie @ Over the Thresholdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376529562902628318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092327908759855115.post-14755209127841326362014-01-29T10:00:12.130-05:002014-01-29T10:00:12.130-05:00Abby is the worst. Nice in Germany and then when we were back in CT it was right across the street from the Stop & Shop making it super convenient to get what I could at ALDI and then cross the street for the rest.

FYI about nitrates though--even if it says nitrate-free, there are more than likely still nitrates in the product. Another "natural" substance is used to get the same effect, but they don't have to list it. There are actually several vegetables (can't remember which ones) that are not recommended to be made as homemade baby food because they naturally-occurring nitrate level in them is too high and you have no way of knowing what it is. Manufactured baby food monitors these vegetables and test for the nitrate level to be safe for babies. But I would think that it's still better than the regular nitrate stuff.KelleyAnnie @ Over the Thresholdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376529562902628318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092327908759855115.post-17624596672313337002013-11-15T10:54:16.749-05:002013-11-15T10:54:16.749-05:00for some reason I didn't think wall art was un...for some reason I didn't think wall art was universal for toddlers, but apparently it is. There ...I can definitely see this happening to me. There is no area of my life that is more idealized than the sort of parent I will be. I think it will all come crashing down eventually! You were right to make the changes you did though--sometimes the best choice is not that (as we see it) obvious "healthy" choice. Sometimes formula is what your baby needs. Sometimes your kid had to eat all kinds of things that seem unhealthy because it controls his seizures. You knew what seemed "right" but it just wasn't going to work in your world and I don't think anyone would think he could be any less perfect for it!KelleyAnnie @ Over the Thresholdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11376529562902628318noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092327908759855115.post-15387237476291633432013-08-30T11:35:38.235-04:002013-08-30T11:35:38.235-04:00It is stunning! I only wash my hair every 4 days or so, so I figure the "damage" that I am doing with regular shampoo is already significantly reduced. And when I'm at places like Marshalls, I look for organic/natural shampoos and pick them up sometimes. Budget is a real concern for me...I figure if I can't afford raw honey to put in my tea every evening, I can't afford raw honey to pour on my head and wash down the drain. All of THAT said, I one time tried some artisanal shampoo that was a hotel sample...it was aloe and honey and it was THE BEST shampoo I've ever used in my life. bashtreehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15865739589835039440noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8092327908759855115.post-16894169574793741002013-07-26T10:06:50.783-04:002013-07-26T10:06:50.783-04:00Forgot to mention, have you tried the raw honey me...Forgot to mention, have you tried the raw honey method? I'm an occasional reader of a blog that touts the no 'poo method as being harmful and she does honey instead. I want to try both, soon as I get myself time for an adjustment period. Then again, maybe that's everything I write?

Of the first list, I do 2, 4, and 7. Since most people I know won't see this, I'm gonna go ahead and risk telling you that I just plain don't do 5. At all. Haha, sort of, I mean it gets washed in the shower. But I find this has worked better for me. I don't make chicken stock because I only recall ever making food that needed chicken stock like twice. Am I cooking wrong? And I would do 1--if I had occasion to be diapering.

Of your wish list, I have the same wishes, except that I do make all our bread. (Ask me how annoying it's been to not have our oven working since we moved in--grr.) I will never use homemade deodorant because I am one those freaky people who needs extraordinary sweat protection and I will have no friends if I start making my own. I am still waiting to try no 'pooing since I have never had a stretch of time long enough to have an adjustment period (always working or interviewing) but that's up next ASAP. Still haven't tried raw milk, but maybe eventually. And honestly, it's unlikely Brice will be letting me get chickens. I like the idea, but truly what I want is a male mallard duck named Bert and a wading pool for him to waddle in and out of. Sometimes my ...Memory is such an interesting thing. Sometimes my memory works too well - I wish I had one of those zappers from Men in Black. Yet there are also times where my memory protects me. I was with my college boyfriend for six years, and toward the end we were in a serious downward spiral. I went for walk with his Mom - why, I don't remember - but she really laid in to me. For the life of me to this day, I remember the conversation but not the specifics. I am quite grateful for this because I don't need to remember the hateful words she sprayed all over me. She did not think I was good enough for her son, and while she was entitled to such an opinion it was not fair for her to treat me that way. Perhaps it is okay that you had forgotten about that moment in your marriage - I think it was your memory's way of protecting you until you were ready to remember it again. Does this make any sense? Probably not - I am a big stress/anger ball right now. I just wanted you to know that your post resonated with me.
